Product Details

Thirsties® Microterry Inserts offers the very best in absorbency. The full size 3-ply soaker is made from the best microterry we could find and offers a more complete coverage.  Standard microterry inserts are made from a microfiber that is more bulky and actually less absorbent.  We ran an absorbency test on our new inserts vs. the other leading brand and we found ours to be much trimmer but yet offering 3 oz. more in absorbency!  Perform your own absorbency test and you'll be equally as amazed!

The wide end of the insert can be tucked into the front or the back of the pocket diaper to suit the specific needs of your baby girl or baby boy. We have found the having the flexibility to stuff the insert in the direction we need the most absorbency, often eliminates the need for nighttime doublers and additional bulk.

The unique contoured design of Thirsties Microterry Inserts allow for the insert to actually lie flat within the middle of your pocket diaper.  Thirsties Microterry Inserts will not bunch and add bulk to the middle of your pocket diapers as will other brands we have tested.  Our inserts are especially designed to provide the absolutely trimmest fit, without sacrificing absorbency and will fit comfortably in all all major pocket diaper brands.  Available in four sizes. Imported.

Microterry should not be used directly against the skin.  It absorbs so well that it can actually chap skin and be very irritating.  So it should be used inside a pocket diaper, or on the outside of a fitted or prefold.  There should always be a layer of another textile between the skin and absorbent microterry for baby's comfort.

I've tried several microterry inserts, but Thirsties is my favorite mainly because of it's shape. It is narrow in the middle, which helps the diaper look trimmer, and I assume it also helps my tots feel more comfortable without a thick wad in their crotches--this is important since I double up with an added Thirsties cotton/hemp insert for daytime or triple up for nighttime! Also, because the insert is wider on the ends, it allows for more absorbency, without added bulk. Last, I love these so much I plan on selling my old wide rectangular ones and stocking up on more Thirsties!! P.S. even though I'm not a frequent washer, I don't have a problem with smell because I do 2 washes--1st with vinegar+soap, 2nd w/ baking soda+soap, and follow with a vinegar/H2O rinse.

This is my very favorite microterry insert. It fits well in the Fuzzi Bunz and bumGenius (size medium is best in the BumGenius). With the contouring there are no leaks. I double up the Thirsties at night and it works great!   Kate - 11/06

I love these inserts! When I first started using cloth diapers, everyone told me that the Hemparoos were the best inserts. I got some and were sorely disappointed with them. Shortly after, I ordered some Fuzzi Bunz and these inserts and they are absolutely wonderful! They are very absorbent, not too thick, and I like that there is not a big wad of fabric between my daughters legs. I agree with the first review about placing the wider end in the front for girls. I had read the same thing (that the narrow end was to be in the front) but I found turning it around to work best for my daughter. I also agree that Thirsties should make an hourglass shaped insert. I don't find that they retain smells at all. I use 1/2 cap of Ecover detergent and 1 small scoop of OxyClean Free, seems to do the job just fine. Only one insert has stained, and I have quite a few of them.   Lynn - 9/06

As compared with the competitors’ micro terry, Thirsties brand win because their contoured shape truly makes a difference. In fact I’ve seen other WAHM diaper company’s switching to promoting Thirsties over their own brand!

As compared with the Thirsties Hemp insert, I think I like the Thirsties micro terry better. The hemp, though trimmer, is somewhat rigid, whereas the micro terry is soft and moves with your child. Nonetheless, I use one Thirsties micro terry insert on top of a Thirsties hemp insert for my super soaker, and I have yet to have a leak in any of my 5 different pocket diaper brands—and this is with a child who used to wet through every brand of disposables!

Last, one is advised to place the wide end in the back for girls and up front for boys, but I must place the widest part in the front of my daughter’s pocket diaper because that part get soaked the fastest, especially when she is sleeping (she is mostly a stomach sleeper). I wish then that Thirsties would be made hourglass shaped (wide on each end) so that the extra absorption would be available no matter what position my child is in.  Jennifer - 7/06

These inserts are very absorbent, but they hold smells terribly for me. I think it may just be the nature of the synthetic fiber, I prefer hemp or cotton. Jennifer - 7/06
